The year 2010 was not that fruitful when it came to the box office at Tollywood. Many films with high expectations turned out to be duds and disappointed. However, past is past and the time has come to look at the future and that too with a positive outlook. Now, here is a look at the year 2011 and the various aspects that will decide the future of Tollywood this year.
Mahesh Babu with Dookudu
Prince Mahesh Babu came in after a long gap with his ‘Khaleja’ but ended up with a massive dud at the box office in 2010. The good side of it was Mahesh’s performance was given few praises. Now, it is imperative that Mahesh scores a hit and he has got ‘Dookudu’ in the offing. After so many flops, will he make up for the lost time and losses??
Rana With Nenu Na Rakshasi
Crazy director Puri Jagannadh is coming up with a new treat and this time, he has roped in for a fresh hero in the form of Daggubati Rana. Given his recent streak of flops and just average fares, will Puri break the jinx and score a blockbuster like his ‘Pokiri’? on the other hand, Rana has been seen in a class role and this will be his first attempt in a mass role of sorts. Will he be successful in a commercial movie??
Ram Charan with Merupu
Ramcharan Tej could have maintained his top league position if he had scored a hit with his film ‘Orange’ during 2010. The film came in with high expectations after ‘Magadheera’ and turned out to be miserable dud. Now, after this big flop will he be able to get success? The good side is that it will be having the sexy hip beauty Ileana as the leading lady as the buzz is that Kajal Agarwal had to back out. The other challenge is that this will be directed by Kollywood specialist Dharan who doesn’t have a fairly decent record in Tollywood.
Allu Arjun with Badrinath
Slated to be the most expensive movie ever made in the banner of Geetha Arts, Badrinath is an attempt to get Allu Arjun the superstar status and beat the likes of ‘Magadheera’. Apparently, Allu Arjun has been long waiting for a hit so now, will he get the much needed success? This will also be a comeback venture for Tamannah after her hiatus so let us see what happens.
Pawan Kalyan with Lovely
Power star Pawan Kalyan is the one star from the mega family who has a strong connect with the masses and his films are often met with high expectations. But he gave a big blow with his ‘Puli’ so this year, he needs to score a big hit in the form of ‘Lovely’. The fact that this is inspired heavily from the Bollywood hit ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is giving an indication.
Balakrishna with PVC and Sree Rama Rajyam
Last year, though Nandamuri Balakrishna scored success with ‘Simha’, there were few groups which criticised that it was just lucky. So this year, it will be a big test for NBK as he is arriving with two different ventures. One is ‘Parama Veera Chakra’, the 150th directorial venture of Dasari Narayana Rao and this is followed by ‘Sree Rama Jayam’ an epic movie being directed by the veteran icon Bapu.
Chiranjeevi with 150th Film
Megastar Chiranjeevi quit his Tollywood throne to acquire the throne of AP Politics but he was left with one chair of an MLA while his entire coterie bit the mud. So now, he has realised the truth and is keen on regaining his glory. Since then, the buzz about his 150th film has been making rounds. Will he make it??
Jr NTR with Shakti
It was an year of mixed fortunes for young tiger NTR junior in 2010. While a well made ‘Adhurs’ went average, his family treat ‘Brindaavanam’ got pass marks and also a new image for this usually commercial hero. But now, junior is taking the biggest gamble as he is likely to arrive with the most ambitious and expensive film ever made in Tollywood history. This is ‘Sakthi’ and he is pairing up with Ileana in this one. Given the budget involved and a shaky director like Meher Ramesh, can junior do it??
Ravi Teja with Mirapakaya and Veera
Though he has passed his prime, he has been showing a good pull among the mass audience with his high energetic performances. Crazy star Ravi Teja is also known as mass raja. This year, he has ‘Mirapakaya’ ‘Veera’ and few others in the pipeline, will he be able to keep the mass raja title this year??
Prabhas With Mr Perfect
Prabhas has got a hit with ‘Darling in 2010. And now he is coming up with Dil Raju’s ‘Mr Perfect’ pairing with Kajal again. This is Dil Raju’s 12th venture and we have to see how far he scores a hit with this. The film was earlier announced to be releasing for Sankranthi but as per present status it may postpone for while.
Naga Chaitanya with Geeta Arts Movie
Naga Chaitanya has seen a wonderful success with Ye Maya Chesaave in 2010. Thanks to AR Rehman and Goutam Vasudev Menon. The film ran successful as huge youthful entertainer and musical hit. Now he is coming with a film on Geeta Arts banner pairing up with Tamannah.
