Ending the day long suspense over the successor of Chief Minister K Rosaiah, the Congress high command finalized the name of N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the speaker of the Assembly, as the new chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
His name was announced by AICC observer Pranab Mukherjee at Lake View Guest House in Hyderabad late in the evening, after he consulted party president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi over phone.
The decision followed a unanimous resolution adopted by the Congress Legislature Party authorizing party president Sonia Gandhi to appoint the new Chief Minister in place of Rosaiah. The emergency meeting of CLP meeting was held at the Assembly premises in the evening in the presence Pranab Mukherjee apart from other AICC observers A K Antony and Ghulam Nabi Azad, besides party in charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Veerappa Moily.
According to party sources, Kiran Kumar Reddy will take the oath on Thursday at 10 AM. Rosaiah is likely to be deputed as Governor of Karnataka or Madhya Pradesh in a week or two, sources said.
